It’s a great thrill to announce that Stone Edge will very shortly be starting work at famous St Botolph’s, Boston. The church in Lincolnshire has one of the tallest medieval towers in the country, at 272 feet high. It is surrounded by flat countryside and can be seen from East Anglia on the other side of The Wash. It’s no wonder the tower came to be used as a landmark by travellers on the Fens and out at sea. In more recent times, it was used as a guide by bomber pilots navigating back to base during World War II.
We will be scaffolding the whole West elevation of the famous tower in order to carry out masonry repairs and lead roofing works. There will also be repairs made to the glazing, installation of underfloor heating and a beautiful new Ancaster stone floor. It will be a privilege to work here – but it’s a good job we have a head for heights.
