The Priest's House, Barden Tower, Bolton Abbey Estate, North Yorkshire
Conservation and transformation project
OUR WORK HERE
The Priest’s House sits in the shadow of the ruins of Barden Tower, a Grade I listed medieval building. The house is run as a wedding venue, but the visitor facilities were not up to the standard required by its exacting clientelle.
Our project here was to construct new WC facilities in a confined underground space, adjacent to the Priest’s House, making a new opening in the historic fabric to allow access from the main building. Close liaison with the conservation officers was required, to ensure that the historic fabric was treated appropriately.
The building remained live while the work was under way, and our team worked closely with the tenant to protect their ongoing business activities.
