Conservation and transformation project
OUR WORK HERE
A medieval sandstone wall was exposed when the Palatine Building was demolished. This part of Manchester city centre is rich with medieval history and the wall required specialist conservation and structural work. The works were carried out in close collaboration with archaeologists.
Scaffolding was erected to allow specialist cleaning and making good of the sandstone wall. Damaged stone was redressed by stonemasons to match the existing. Structural work was carried out on stone buttresses and foundations were dug to support the new ashlar walling/dressing. The retained tower building required new glazing and repair work.
Finally, landscaping was carried out to the footprint of the demolished building, including the planting of a wildflower garden.
