Located within Liverpool’s historic Albert Dock, the International Slavery Museum is the only museum in the world focused exclusively on the history and legacies of the transatlantic slave trade. The museum is currently closed for a major redevelopment, set to reopen in 2028.

Stone Edge have been appointed to carry out a comprehensive package of masonry, stone, and roofing works to safeguard the external fabric of the building as part of these redevelopment efforts.

WORKS INCLUDED:
  • Rake out and repoint brickwork across multiple elevations, including lightwell masonry.
  • Localised brick replacement in isolated locations.
  • Removal of ferrous fixings and redundant fittings with mortar repairs to holes.
  • Stone indent repairs and replacement of weathered or delaminated cills.
  • Crack repairs using stainless steel pins and resin, followed by specification repointing.
  • Repointing of stone joints including window cills.
  • Mortar repairs to string courses to prevent water ingress and deterioration.
  • Careful cleaning of masonry surfaces.

Roof and Repair works included:

  • Vegetation removal and biocide treatment.
  • Careful removal of existing roof coverings.
  • Installation of new Welsh Penrhyn heather blue slate roof covering.
  • Associated making good of roof timbers and junctions.
